Thursday, May 8, 6:00-8:00pm Women who conceived with donor sperm or eggs often need help strategizing about how to help their children understand their biological origins. We will address developmentally appropriate language that can help children of all ages integrate knowledge of the donor side of their origins while strengthening their life-long bond with their lesbian parent(s). We will also discuss donor siblings and how to negotiate these relationships and different strategies for children with known and unknown donors. Dinner will be provided. Saturdays, May 17, June 21, 10:00am-12:00pm Are you or your partner a transgender parent? Or thinking about becoming a parent? The Transgender Parent Support Group is an opportunity to connect with your peers and get mutual support. The group will meet every third Saturday of each month. First half hour will be spent socializing, with the remaining time dedicated to group discussion. Drop-ins are welcome, but ongoing attendance helps to establish group rapport. Rosa Reinkainen has been working with the LGBTQ population for over 10 years. She works extensively with LGBTQ parenting. Saturdays, May 17 & 31, June 14 & 28, July 12, 2:00-4:00pm Our Family Coalition, Pact, and iPride are convening a support group that will offer a supportive educational environment to LGBTQ adoptive parents and caregivers. This group will meet for 6 Saturdays, every other week, starting in May. Each group session will offer LGBTQ parents an opportunity to explore their feelings about transracial adoptive parenting in a safe and nurturing setting, with a focus on developmentally appropriate approaches to their family's issues. The cost for 6 sessions is a suggested sliding scale of $90-$120, no one turned away for lack of funds. You can still register online for the remaining sessions. Sunday, May 18, 11:00am-1:00pm Join us as we gather for a Transgender Family Picnic! This will be a great opportunity to meet other transgender families – including transgender and gender non-conforming parents, children, youth, and adults with transgender parents, other family members, prospective trans parents, and allies. We will also celebrate the release of "Kids of Trans Resource Guide," (KOT) created by COLAGE's Kids of Trans Fellow, Monica Canfield-Lenfest. The guide is the first of its kind – a valuable publication by and for people with transgender parents! If you can't attend but would like a copy of the KOT Resource Guide, please e-mail Monica at kidsoftrans@colage.org. Please bring something for the grill and drinks for your family. Sunday, May 18, 3:00-5:30pm LEARN IT, DO IT! Do you have questions about the differences between domestic partnership and second parent adoption? At this hands-on workshop, two expert attorneys will describe adoption processes, answer your questions, and help you prepare the adoption paperwork. If you’re not ready for adoption but want information about the process, attend the fi rst hour presentation and Q&A. Remaining time will be spent preparing forms. Sunday, May 18, 2:00-5:00pm Join us for Berkeley’s 9th Annual LGBT community Pride celebration brunch. There will be food and drinks from local restaurants, entertainment, and local politicians. Bring your family, friends and kids for this terrific yearly community event! At this year’s Berkeley Pride, Our Family Coalition will provide a Family Garden with face painting and more family friendly activities.
